The death occurred fn Masterton cn Sunday evening, at the age o? seventy years,' of Mrs. Harriet Hill, one of tho earliest residents of the town, and wifo of Mr. T. H. Hill, of Wellington. The deceased was a stepdaughter of the late Mr. Joseph Masters, ono of the founders of Masterton. ' A series of heavy thunderstorms passed over the Waira'rapa on Sunday. • The suggested improvements on the showgrounds of the Masterton A. and P. are estimated to cost .£I7OO, Mr.'W. Perry, a member of tho Board of Agriculture, informed tho meeting of, the Masterton A. and P. Association 011 Saturday last that stops were being taken to procure suitable men to go round tho various districts and give scientific demonstrations to farmers. ' At a meeting in Masterton on Saturday evening, it was decided to form a branch of tho Engineers' Socioty. The Mayor of Masterton is appealing for subscriptions to enable the peace celebrations to be worthy of the district. A satisfactory response is being made. Advice reached Masterton on Saturday that the Success dredge, which has been operating for some years in the Hokitika district, had been sunk as a result of floods. The Masterton A. and P. Association decided on Saturday to place 011 record the services rendered by Mr. J. B. Henry as treasurer. Mr. Henry has been promoted to an inspectorate in tho Bank of New Zealand. Mr. J. H. Cowan, of the clerical staff of the Masterton railway station, lias been transferred to Greymouth. In la senior championship match played at Masterton 011 Saturday, the Red Star seniors defeated Dalofiold by 2-1 points to nil. A match between tho Red Star and Greytown. juniors resulted in a draw.
