THE AMOKUR
ANNUAL BOXING CONTESTS. The annual boxing contests were held in the Araokura schoolroom in the presence of the Hon. T. M. Wilford (Minister of Marine), the Hon. A. M. Myers (Minister of Munitions and Supplies), and others interested in the sport. The contests comprised the finals iu the five principal classes—heavy-weights, mid-dle-weights, welter-woighU, light-weights, and bfiutain-ircighte. Results wero as follow:—Heavy-weights (awl winner of Wilford Cup), J. Hancox (lOst.) beat T. Eaton (lOst. 311).); middle-weights, S. Sherman (9st. 81b.) boat C. Ulph (list. 111b.); welter-weights, A, Tombs (Bst. 511>.) beat A. Herbert (Bst. lib.); lightweights, H. Duncan (7st. Gib.) beat E. Bull (7st. alb.); bantam-weights, S. Fillingham (Gst. lOlb.) beat W. Mungin (list. 811).). A special prize for the most scientific boxing was awarded to S. IMlUngham. It is interesting to note that out of fifty-nine boys on tho ship fifty-eight competed. The boys were fortunate in securing tho servia-s as referee of Mr. George Cloake, who has been Identified with the sport for many years, ami whose ability met With the approval uf all present. ' The prizes and tho Thorndon Dinghy Club's Cup, which was recently won by the port watch for boat pulling, and the Navy League Victory Shield,' which was also won by the port watch in the annual ■ competition for "out kedgo,' were presented by Ma-. Wilford.
