STRIKES IN FRANCE
COAL FAMINE THREATENED INTERNATIONAL LABOUR MOVEMENT By Tekeraph-Prcse Associatlon-CopyrlßSt (Eec. Jume 22, 5.5 p.m.) Paris, June 21. The French coal 6trika threatens a coal famine. Tho critical turn is duo to tho Cl'amber of Deputies refusing tbc Eight Hours Bill, which tho Miners' Federation approved. The General Labour Confederation announces a meeting of delegates representing the trades unions of Belgium, France, Britain, and Italy, with tho object of promoting an international movement. It is believed this is the prelude to a general strike, supported internationally, in., order to 6olve the economic questions. There are, however, probably two movements, one national ami the other international, one economic and the other political, so that a resurrection of the on a revolutionary basis is threatened. The Extreme Socialists still hope to turn the Paris movement in the direction of a social revolution in tho interests of the G.ermim Bolshevists', but the Labour heads have succeeded thus far in keeping j within the trade union or economic liin- I its. The Government is firm and will | not allow the situation to get out of hand, , The Army certainly does not sympathise with the revolutionary movement, which might enable the enemy to benefit.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. REVOLUTIONARY PLOT HATCHED IN BOLSHEVIK CENTRE IN CHICAGO. (Eec. June 22, 5.5 p.m.) Paris, June 12.
