FIRES
TWO OUTBREAKS YESTERDAY. Shortly after 2 o'clock yesterday morning the Central Fire Station received a call to No. !) Nonnanby Terrace, whore a three-roomed dirolling-honse whs on firo. The prompt action of ho neighbours soon quelled tho outbreak, and tho services of the brigade wore not required. Only slight dninago to the ceiling and boarding was done. The house was occupied by llr. Richard Haycock, and owned by Mr. Allan Smith, of Aro Street. Tho contents svoro uninsured, and particulars as to the insurances nn'lhe building were not known by the brigade last evening. A fire, tho origin of■ which is unknown, damaged a section of the pine trees on the Town Belt ut Roseneuih yesterday morning. The Central Station received the call at. 8.13 a.m., but on arrival found that the Roseucatti Brigade had the firo well under control, although at one time some houses in tho vicinity were in danger of being destroyed.
