WATER SUPPLY FOR MIRAMAR
; At the meeting of the Miramar Borough Council last evening tlie borough'engineer (Mr. i'ox) submitted, the following ; report, with respect to water supply:—l''ol--I6\viiij; upon tho demonstration given on Mr: A. 1(. Persian's property by Mi'; A. C. Clarke, professional water-mviuor, 01 Auckland, "Mr. Clarke was instructed toy His Worship (lie Mayor to traverso tha borough in search of possible supplies ot water. This-was'donemr ,Tu.ne 1) cud 10, with the result that three probabio sources were -found. •■ I would recommend the council at once to investigule tho possibililiS,of'tlie locality on Block IV, Seutoun, by Milking a small pipe cf 2in. dimneler. It is impossible to say what depth it wili.be required to be driven, but judging from "the formation of the siiriounding hills I am of llio opinion that-samlsioiie will be met with at about Gflft. Up .to that point, mo driving will be comparatively simple, mid I have practically all the plant and piping necessary to bore.to n greater depth to fully test.the volume and quality cf the 'water available. I consider that at a total outlay of not more than 4:10 tho pipe could be sunk lo a depth of ut least 125 ft. At this deplh there should be reliable information upon which to estimate the cost of developing (bis source of sunply to its full extent. The council was generally favourable, but it was decidod. to obtain some iurther information before proceeding'with the test j'ccommendcd.
