APPEAL TO HELP MOTHERS

• Sir,—l am extremely interested in this movement. The name of Mothers' Help Division sounds so solid and strong, but I think a little more definiteness would help the cause very much, for 1 am sure tho public will take this up heartily if thoroughly understood; many because of the fine patriotic record of the W.N.R., ever willing, ever ready without ostentation, "to hoe the tough row," and this the first appeal for its own work. If the following questions can be answered in the Press, help will bo more spontaneous :— 1. A sum of money has been given by various people whoso names appeared in ■print. It was thought by many that that money : was for helpers to go into the iiomes and take charge of the children of the overdone mother, for an afternoon or day, but now we see a rest room is being started (an excellent idea in itself), the City Council paying the rent; and by Press notices last night it is suggested various linns, will give the (furnishings (which, by the way, should be simple and easily kept clean.) How much of tlie money already donated is to go towards paying help to help tho mothers? 2. Are there to be two separate appeals for money? Unless things are put on a very definite basis there will be confusion in the public mind. •_ 3. Will not the rest room be partially, if not wholly, self-supporting*? i. How many families can be helped if tiio <£2(K) or £.100 is raisod, and lmw are they to 'be helped? . 5. Would it not ba wise lu start in ;■ more modest way, and get workers who would bo paid by (lie hour? When you huve a body of women doing this satisfactorily you will have sained the confidence of the public, and money will be readily forthcoming. I shall 'be very grateful if you will grant space for this letter.—l niu, etc., SYMPATHETIC AND ANXIOUS INQUIRER. Juno H. [The foregoing questions have been submitted to members of the Mothers' Help Division Committee (W.N.R.), and in reply il was stated that they would be fully and officially answered at the next meeting of the committee.!
