A grey-backed storm petrel, a. pretty little bird not much -larger than a sparrow, dropped dead, apparently from exhaustion, in a field nt Tcmpleton last week (says tho "Lyltelton Times")- It was picked up by II r. T. Anderson, who sent it to Canterbury Museum, where it will Ire set up and added to the collection of Now Zealand petrels. Tho first monthly social and dance of the liowly-estublished Robert Burns Club was held in the Ponsonby Hall, Abel Smith Street, lasl night. Mr. \V. Kraip; read nn interesting paper on "Auld Scots Ballads." and Messrs. Martin Duff, Verdi Mackenzie, Miss t'roctor, and little Helen M'Lellan contributed songs; Mr. T.en l'ower and Miss Betty Mentird recited. Mr. Leo Kiesenburg and Mr. J. H. Biitlorsby officiated abb- at the piano. Pipe-Major Symont provided the pipe music. Tho Miss Daisy M'Lellan save fine exhibitions of Highland dancing and the sailor's hornpipe. Messrs.
