LAND FOR SOLDIERS
TWO PALMEESTOX BLOCKS PUBCHASED. By Telegraph—[Special Correspondent.' Palmerston North, June 16. Two blocks of laud have been purchased by the Government in the Palmerston district for soldier settlement. (Jue is owned by the trustees" of the estate of the late Mr. D. Buick, M.P., and contains 274 acres. It is situate on th-.< Boundary Road, within it chains of the borough boundary. The other is situate on No..') Line (Stubbs's Line), hear Newbury, and has an area ol 391 acres 20 perchc6. It was purchased from Mr. I{. A. M'Kenzie. The price paid in each block was JtBB per acre. It is proposed to cut up the greater portion <Ji' tho Buick estate in live-acre sections tor the benefit of men.engaged in town occupations. The whob of the M'Kenzie estate will be, subdivided into about iiO-acre farms. The land is exceedingly rich, and first-class results should be obtain-, able by soldier settlers. It is the intention of the Department to proceed with the necessary survey of roads, eT£., iru- ' mediately.
