A writ of arrest haE been issued against the Canadian schooner Laurel Whalen, which has been in port since January 2. The writ in for the crew's wages, which liavo been unpaid since the Court here dccided that the crew were to be raid off as tho articles had expired in April. BARQUE GLADBROOK AT SYDNEY. Cable advice received by the Union Company states that the bartiue Gladbrook arrived at Sydney on Wednesday morning from Sail Francisco, after a paßiage of 59 days. The Gladbfook was formerly known as tho County of Anglesea, and after being utilised as a hulk ai. Auckland for several years, was towed to Port Chalmers, where she was refitted for the Union Company. After loading a full cargo at Port Chalmers, the Gladbrook sailed on January 15 for San rraiicijco, arriving there on March 20, and mailing? again on April 12. She lias thus completed her first round trip acrosß tho Pacific in the creditable time of under five months. Oil completion of discharge at Sydney the Gladbrook will L>o to Neweastie to load a cargo of coal for the west coast of South America. WORLD'S GREATEST OIL TANKER. The world's largest oil tanker has been launched from the Wallsend yard of Messrs. Swau, Hunter, and Wigham Kicnardson. Ltd. The vessel, which has been christened the San Florentino, lias a carryin" capacity of 18,000 tons, and forms the latest addition to the tank ileet of the Eaglo Oil Transport Co., Ltd. The average oiler, apart from the series of 15,000 tonners of tho same company, has a carrying capacity in the neighbourhood of 8000 tons. Oil fuel, steam turbines, and a eiuffle screw form the propelling plant of the new vessel. THE TALUNE. For Fiji, Tonga, and Samoa, the Tallinn is to be dispatched from Auckland at ten o'clock to-morrow morning. CHUPRA WITH TROOPS. A doparturo from Homo on June 8 was the steel screw steamer Chupra, built in 1906 and owned by British India Steam Navigation Co., Ltd., with troops for New Zealand. / ARMAGH FURTHER DELAYED. The Armagh hac been further delayed at Sydney, and she will not leave that port now till next Saturday. She is now due at Waitara on June M. KIA ORA'S FINAL DATE. The Kia Ora is now set down to leave for London, via the Panama, on Thursday afternoon, instead of Wednesday, as previously announced. CITY OF DUNKIRK DUE TO-DAY. Tile City of Dunkirk, from New York, left Auckland at 7 o'elook on Saturday morning, and is due hero early tiUB raorn- • ing. After discharge here she will proceed to Lyttelton and Dunedin, then goiflg on to Sydney to complete. THE HINESIOA. The Binemoa arrived at Auckland on Friday, from the liauraki Gulf and Cuvicr Island,' where sho was delayed by bad weather. She will probably get away lor the northern lighthouses to-morrow morning. THE MOKOIA. The Mokoia iB scheduled to leave Auckland 10-night for Napier and Wellington, and she is due hero on Thursday. Tho same evening sho will sail far the south.
WAIPORI FOB SYDNEY. The Waipori, having been delayed at liyttelton, will not now arrive hero till to-morrow morning, and slio is to sail ill the evening for Sydney direct, talsms cargo.

A departure for southern porta to-day will be the Breeze. , The Stella, taking cargo, is, to be dispatched to Auckland this evening. If is expcctcd that the auxiliary scow Magic will be placed on the sl.p after she has discharged her cargo of stone from Sandy Bay. . . The Richardson steamer koutunui is to leave for Gisborne to-morrow, taking a cargo'of coko. It is expected that the Komata will return to Westport on- Wednesday. The Bimutaka is now to leave on Thursday- for Tokomeru Bay. Wliakatane and Gisborno to commeiico homeward loading. The Wakatu, which is at present undergoing overhaul at Lyttelton, is expected to leave that port about Thursday for Wellington. , ' ~, ... After a run of 15 days from Wellington, the Swedish sailing ship Transocean (1430 tons register) arrived at Melbourne on May 21. From tho .Victorian port the vessel is under orders to proceed to HalmThe barque Eothesay Bny arrived at Melbourne on May 22 from Auckland, after a passage of 24' days. On a previous voyage front Auckland to Melbourno the Eothesay Bay was 45 days between ports. Advice was received on Thursday by the Union Company that the Wanaka. left Newcastle at 5 p.m. on Wednesday with a' load of coal for Auckland. The hulk Port Bouauet, which was towed from Noumea- to Sydney by the steamer St. Seocfa recently, is in charge of Captain Scottc, who states that 56 years ago she was named Hangatiki, and belonged to tho New Zealand Steamship Company. She was sold by ..that company, and was renamed the Boomerang, eventually passing irto the hands of Norwegian owners, who renamed her tho IJulstan. She was afterwards purchased by Bollande and Sons for a hulk. The master called the Port Bouauet after a port in New Caledonia. , , . News to hand by the last Australian mail states that tho Melbourne agents of the schooner Speedway (514 tons), which left Boston on December 26 for Melbourne, are awaiting news of her progress. She is now over 167 days out. but since she left Panama, on January 25, nothing has been heard of her. Tho sailer may again be in demand to supply European countries with lumber for reconstruction work bb a result of tho recent war, states an exchange. Puget Sound mill oporators arc recemnn many orders, but tonnage cannot te secured. Deals are now pending to arrange charters for lumber carriers to Italy. The fact that charter rates from tho Pacific are lower than from tho Gulf States indicates that a large portion of shipments made to Europe will be from Pacific coast points. The demand for lumber carriers of about 1,500,000 feet capacity with the supply depleted indicates that the sailing craft will again be utilised, During tho war the Ellerman Lines lost ninetv vessels. The deferred shareholders of the lines received for 1917 a dividend of 150 per ceht. The appropriation to reserve fund is reduced from £750,0C0 to £500,000. The directors state that the cost of now tonnage is so hi/rh that tho losses the company has sustained cannot be made good with the compensation and insurance moifty received. The abnormal cost of building, they declare, malteo it impossible to cxpect a fair return on the present cost of new ships. In oTder to maintain the company's services, and to assist in the restoration of the British mercantile marine to itß former tiooitioif, contracts havte nevertheless been entered into for the replacement of a large proportion of the steamers lost.
