AUROEE WINS TE HAP AI? A STEEPLECHASE. By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent. June 11. The second day's racing at the Gisborne Steeplechase Meeting was held in splendid .weather before a great attendance. 'i'Jie tuinJisntor figures were £19,352, an increase of .E2903 lor the day. There was an iucrease of 416600 for tho two days. Mult.ivo, who is being reserved fit Ihe Napier Meeting, was withdrawn from the Hurdles, leaving three others. The race is easily described, for Bjorncborg was allowed'to run along ill front. Tho turn had Cymer in'trouble, while Hytliread, who' would not jump, was lai'.cd off the whole way. Tho winner had a severely cut stifle, but it did not-'seem to impair his galloping. Demonstrate was favourite in the Maiden Handicap, and ho won nicely at the finish from Master Curran. The latter began quickest, but the favourite was soon in front, and led the vest _ of the way. Olengylo ran a poor third, and Ana ha finished neit. The latter was cut out on the home t.nrn, f.nrl will do tatter later on.
Gazique and Sir Ralph were v evenly backed for the big mile event, and after a very close. fudsh the ton-weight won from the little-fancied Ohoroka and Crosswords, while Orateur was right up in fourth place.' Ohoreka and Fiddlestring made the running for half a mile, where the two top-weights were badly placed. Across tha bottom Gazique moved tip, and ho was alongside Ohoreka i.s they swept into the straight. In a good finish lie won by a head. Sir Ralph got <i bad passage tho whole way. Only two horses faced the starter for the Open Steeplechase,' and Diavoio was made a hot favourite. Ho l?d for a mile, but at no stage could ho get away from Aurore, and the latter was outjumping him. With twelve furlongs to go the Birkenhead gelding was taken to the front, and. fencing faultlessly, ho won easily. The winner wm very lame on returning to weigh- in. The Second Hack Flat Handicap was a splendid betting race, Happy Valley,. Aire, and Tckianga all beinir evenly backed. The last-named was slow to move, but the remainder went off in a perfect line. Tho winner scored ea.siiy.
Poneton was an odds-on chance in the Hack Steeples, and be won very comfortablv from Juan, while Rerekolui was a furlong away. The only other starter, Puna Rakau, fell. The Farewell Handicap was a good race. Orawia opened up with Carlysian and Black Lace close and Toki in .the rear. At the home bend Chillies replaced Carlysian. In the'.run homo Orawia was half a length ahead of Crosswords, with Black Lace a similar distanco away third.
