Sir James Allen is to return from his northern tour on Thursday. Tho Hon. G. AV. Russell will return from Auckland this afternoon. The Hon. A. M. Myers arrived in Wellington from Auckland on Saturday. The Rev. J. R. Glasson, for the last twenty-five years pastor of tho Terrace Congregational Church, recently resigned from his pastorate, but was asked to reconsider his decision. He yesterday announced to his congregation that his resignation was final. Mr. Glasson expects to finish his present ministry at the end of August. / The Hon. J. A. Hanan, Minister of Education, has arranged to visit Ashburton to-day. News has been received in New Zealand of the death from pneumonic influenza. of Mr. .Norman Macleod, manager of the "Bulletin" Newspaper Company, Ltd., Sydney. Deceased, who was 35 years of age, Avas the eldest son of Mr. William Macleod, managing director of the "Bulletin." Captain R. B; Henderson, M.C., who was machine-gun instructor in Feathereton Camp after his return from the front, and who subsequently occupied.a. . similar position in the school of instruction at Trentham, is in Christchurch. He has arranged to open a course of instruction in machine-gun work to-day for officers and non-commissioned officers. ,
Mr. Charles Wilson, Parliamentary librarian, who has been laid up for soms weeks, is now convalescent. He hopes to resume his duties this week.
Tho late Mr. Frederick P. Simeon, whose death in Wellington at the age ot 77 was recorded last had a picturesqno career during his sixty years ol colonising in this country. He served in the Maori War, and had some narrow escapes. Since 1872 Mr. Simeon lias, on and off, lived in Wellington, with tlis exception of a stay ill "Jflhnsonville tor some, years, where he tool; an active interest in local affairs. The late Mr. Simeon is survived by a family of three 6ons and ono daughter.
Mr. F. T. Evans, headmaster of the Linwood School, and well-known in athletic circles, has accepted (he position or Acting-Inspector of Primary Schools of Canterbury.
