GRANTS FOR NECESSARY WORKS. After explanatory remarks made by Mr. Montgomery, O.C. Vocational Educational Training, at a meeting of tho New. Zealand Red Cross executive held at Government ■ House,- ' tho following resolutions were passed"That the society authorises tho following buildings beinft undertaken on its account:—l., (a)' At Rotortin, the erection of a lecture hall at an estimated cost of about JG1000; !b) the removal of.-tho ■ workshop from' the sanatorium, estimated to cost ,£150; (c) this supply of heating apparatus, ,£SO. Ohristchurch—Additions to the occupational room,' carpenter's shop, .and leather room (part,of, spl.iiit room requirements), estimated.to cost ,£1000;; at Auckland a splint room I .at the. annexe.to.the Military . .Hospital,. ostimate.d to. cost, ■£1500;' at Dimcdin an occupational room, splint room, carpeiiter.'s shop, and small store, etc., at tlie General Hospital, estimated to cost iSlOOO; at Trentham alternations to buildings,to pro.vido workshops, estimated to cost ,£500; Hanmer, extension of .iiiotor. garage to. provide a. fitting, shop, J2IOQ: total, ,15300. Also -for equipment amounts were .allocated as follow.—Auckland, 4S00;, Dmiedin, .£OOO Dimcdin (Monteoillo),' ',£7O;. Trenthani, . JC1000; Hamner, .£100; Invorcarqill (if required), -C7O:. total, ,£2340.'. It . was also resolved that the'expenditure to the extent of .£SOO at Eeatherston and .£IOO at Miramnr for vocational'training "be authorised if.required. (1) That the executive officers be authorised to ' increase .the' expenditure . upon, the. above works at their discretion, to ,£IO,OOO, .-and that the amounts voted be'interchangeable amongst the above works.
"That nil expenditure riot exceeding •£2OO on. each, of tho .'orthopaedic, hospitals'iri. New .Zealand, for equipment for artificial limb-iiiakin'g,. is approved! No expenditure for the tupply .of material is authorised. . That .the society does not see its way to. provide buildings or agricultural implements on the farms attached .to .the. military hospital.at Hanmer and Pukeroa. With regard to the supply of material, tho Hon. G. Foivlds, havini;. raised the .question as to . patients not being allowed to ( haVe tho proocds of'their individual, work in hospital, it was decided to refer the question of supply to each centre, and a committeo consisting of MrsfLuke, Mr. Young, and a representative from each centro was sot up-to, deal with-tho matter, and-in-terview the Defence Minister, with power to act." , ...
. It was resolved that... all Material. ordered for the account of the Society up to May HI bo paid by the society. A letter 'from the Hon. It. Heaton Rhodes, stilting that he was. returning to Now Zealand, and that Mr. F. Waldegrave had been asked to act as liis successor as. New Zealand Ked'Cross Commissioner in England, was approved. A letter having been received from the Hon. Heaton Rhodes with referonco to tho appointment, of a delegate to.attend the world. Red Cross conference, to bn held in about Bis months' time, jt was decided that the question of appointment should stand over in tho meantime.
