A BIG SCHEME
EXTENSIVE COLD STORAGE PROPOSED. Councillor C. B. Norwood has given notice that he will move at the next meetins of the City Council: That the .Finance Committee investigate and bring down a report as to the advisability of acquiring more land adjacent to the milk station for the following purposes:—(a) To erect thereon suitable buildings for the receiving and more economical handling of parcel delivery services of tho tramway system; (b) that the necessary swing that must be run into tho milk station. for the purpose of handling many tons- of milk inland out of the station daily be made to serve the double purpose and lessen the aggregate cost to 'both departments; (c) that the presept freezing and cool storage plant and building at the milk station De considerably enlarged to provide for the storage of perishable goods in the cityj (d) that the cold storage ba designed to meet the requirements of the abattoir for the storage of meat in such a'way as will not 'contaminate the milk supply; (e) that provision be made when, acquiring the land for fish markets, as. tneso must, when' installed, be near the freezing chambers; and that provision be. made in fixing the site and. designing the cold storage to make it possible : to store fish without .possible contamination of the milk supply; (f) that thv tramway siding referred to in (b) be designed to meet all the requirements of all the above departments; (g) that-a distributing station be established in eacli economic centre in the outlying districts."
