RAILWAY MISHAP
CARRIAGE AND TRTJCES DERAILED, ;By Telegraph-Special Correspondent." Palmerston North, Juno 12. The slow train which left Palmerston North at 7.10 this morning met with a mishap at Shannon by which one carringo and four trucks were derailed. When the news was received in Palmerston an engine was dispatched to the scene to render assistance in clearing the line. The Mnin Trunk express: from Auckland, which should have left here at 9.58 a.m., was held up until nearly 11 o'clock, when she was allowed to proceed. The New Plymouth train from Wellington was held up on the other side of Shannon, and did not reach hero until 1.40 p.m. Other trains wore also held up. The engine whicli was sent down from Palmerston North succeeded in getting the carriage on the line, but the trucks with their lading of timber were jacked oft the metals and capsized alongside the line. Very little damage was done to tho permanent way, and a couple of hours work by a breakdown gang made the lines ready for traflio again.
