PERSONAL ITEMS

Sir James Allen is leaving for' the Auckland district to-day, and will return to Wellington next Thursday. He is to visit the soldiers' institutions at Cambridge and Rotoma, reaching Auckland on Monday. He will present a number of war medals at Hamilton on Friday morning, and also in Auckland on Saturday evening. Whilst in Auckland ho is to open the , new science building in tho Auckland University College. On his return to Wellington he will 6top at Palnierslon to visit the Winter Show, whore his special interest will be tho exhibition of the work of soldiers in hospitals and similar institutions.

Major W. A. .Chappie, R.A.M.C. a well-known citizen of Wellington some years ago, and ft former member of tho House of Representatives, is at present in Wellington. Major Chappie has been for ton years in England, for part of which time ha has ben a member of the House of Commons.

A Press Association telegram from Christchurch announces the death of Captain M'Dougall, Marine Superintendent at Lyttelton for the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company for the past fourteen years. Previously, Captain M'Dougall had been master of several sailing vessels, and later of the steamer Mamari. He was about seventy years of age.

There was n large attendance at the funeral of the late Mr. Charles E. Hickoy yesterday morning, those present inclndiuff representatives of the business community ami members of cricket clubs. A short service was conducted at the family residence in MacdonaUl Crescent by Archdeacon A. M. Johnson, of St. Paul's Cathedral, who alto officiated :it the wavesidq in the Knrori Cemetery. Mr. i'rank Hickcy (brother) and. Lieutenant G. Eyersleiijli and Mr.'C. G. Berry (brothers-in-law )wcre the chief mourners, and Messrs. J. P. BlaHdock, G. Flint, T. Miller, and B. B. Vance, who were associated with the deceased in the days of the old Phoenix Cricket Club, acted as pall-bearers.
