GERMAN NOTE ON LABOUR LEGISLATION
THE ALLIES' REPLY ! (Rec. June 10/ 11.35 u.iju.) London, June 10. The Allies' reply to the German Note on labour legislation' points out that tho Allies have had long experience t of democratic institutions, and consider* it their duty to collaborate with Labour in the formulation of:labour laws. They.tako exception to the German 'Misconception that the views and interests of Governments, must necessarily bo antagonistic to those of Labour. On the contrary, tho accredited representatives of Labour now form soma, part of- the gflnuiiw democratic Governments of tho. world. Therefore it is assumed that antagonism is unlikely, except in tho case, of Governments that' are democratic in -naiuo only. It is not correct for tho Germans to say that tho Berne Congress demands liavo been disregarded. In fact, they find expression in the Treaty and in the general principles of the League Covenant. Tho Allies also h'avo accepted tho idea of an early admission of tho German representatives in respect to international Labour organisation. Tho reply emphasises tho point that comventions under the Peace Treaty are at present more effective than international labour laws," for infringement of which no penalty can bo applied. . The German suggestion that peace-.negotiations should bo delayed in order .to. hold another Labour Conference at Versailles is contrary to tho interests of the workers, who more than anyone elso desire to return to peace and rolief from tho conditions produced by four years of German aggression.—Am-N.Z. Cable Assr« RANTZAU \VA"NTS"TO RESIGN TEEATY AMENDMENTS 'LIKELY. (Bee. Juno" 10, 5.5 p.m.) New York, Juno 2. Tho New York "Times" Paris correspondent states that most reliable information from Berlin says that-Count Hantaan is insisting that tho German Government should accept his resignation. ■ . Tho "World's" Pans correspondent slates that it is,practically certain that several revisions of the Peace Treaty will be sanctioned by tho "Big Four,'- but the principles underlying tho documents will not lie changed,—Aus.-N.Z.
