The fortnights meeting of the Society for Hie Prevention of Cruelty to Animals took place' last evening. The president, Mr. P. Meudowcroft, was in the chair. A letter was received from the City Council re the steep grades on roads that .had been complained of, especially the new road that had been recently constructed near the Hatnitiu tunnel,' stating that the roads had been surveyed, and the best possible had.been done in the matter. A vote of sympathy was passed to the family of the .late Mr. John Holt. The president, Mr. Headowcroft, moved, and it was passed unanimously, that the great services rendered by the. late Mv. Ilott to tho society since its formation be recorded on the minutes. The inspector's report dealt with four cases of lame horses, two'with sores, and two overloading. Other cases dealt with included cruelty to cows., fowls, and cats. Subscriptions received amounted to .f$ 7s. Gd., including .£1 Is. P. Mcadowcroft, Campbell and Co., G. Fowlds, Ltd.; <£1, Mrs. Tremaine.
