RESULTS OF IMPROVED METHODS. London, May 27. Senator Tearce presided'at the Sociotj of Arts when Sir John M'Call (AgentGeneral for Tasmania) read' a paper upon "Science and Industry m. Australilt." Sir John M'Call emphasised the results obtained from tho. introduction of more scientific methods in all departments of Australian production under war pressure The Institute of Science and Industry gave promise of great results. Senator Pearce paid a tribute to tho patriotic action of the Broken Hill Proprietary in initiating, the manufacture of steel rails and ships plates durin» the war. The company took j,rcat risks, and was entitled to full credit, though tho experiments had been a great success. , Mr.. Pearce detailed the reMiiarkalilo'results obtained by the committee of Australian scientists which had been appointed to increase, tho Empire's supplies of glycerine, toluol, and othor products for high explosives. Glycerine previously had been poured into tho sewers with tho by-products from soapworks. Acetate of lime from molasses was thrown into the Queensland rivers, and only poieoned the fishes,—Aus.-NA Cablo Assn.
