BESTOWAL OF HONOURS
MOTION CONDEMNING SYSTEM DEFEATED. (Rec. Juno 8, 11.5 p.m.) London, Juno 7. In tho House of Commons a lively debate took yiluco on a motion condemning tho present system of bestowing honours. Lord Hugh Cecil and others strong 7 urged that every honour should bo submitted to a committee of the Privy Council, so that thero could bo no suspicion possible that they, wore corruptly recommended to tho Sovereign. Other critic* urged that all subscriptions to party funds be mado public. ■ _ Mr. Bonar Law, replying, denied that •honours woro sold by the Government Ho was willing to accopt a resolution that tho honours should not be given dircctlyv or indirectly for subscriptions to party funds, but said it was impossiblo and undesirable to forbid public rewards for party services while tho party system continued. Men naturally boliovcd thai their political work was for the country's good. . •' Tho motion was defeated by 112 votes to JO.-Aus.-N.Z. Cable, Assiv.
