CROYDON ANGLICAN' BOYS' SCHOOL.
OPENING CEREMONY. Tho Croydon School, finy's Bay, which has been acquired by 'the Church jt.f England as a boys' boarding educational institution, was opened yesterday afternoon by the Bishop of-'.Wellington (Dr. Spi'ott). There was an attendance of about 150 parents and friends-of the scholars.
Bishop Sprott, in declaring..the f.chool open, commended the church school movement to churchmen, and-trusted that tlio institution would be succesful in its objects. He desired to. thank Messrs. A. E. Mabin, W. J. Birch..J..S. Studholme, and George Shirteliffc, the four guarantors who enabled tho purchaso of the school property to bo made, and honed that their example would foe'tollowed by other church peoplo in crder that their church schools might be established. Referring to the Eev. E. H. Hobday,- tho rector, * the Bishop' said there was no other school which had a headmaster -of such brilliant- uniyoreity distinctions. The Eev. R, Franklin, hon. secretary of the Church Schools Board, said that although several other parochial day schools were being assisted by tho board, Croydon School was tho first ; diocesan boarding school to bo established. After other speeches had been mado by 'Messrs. Mabin and Studholme and tho Eev. Mr. Hobday, tho visitors wero entertained to afternoon tea, arid wero then conducted on an inspection of the school buildings ami grounds. .
