Y.M.C.A. won the toss, and elected to play with tho sun behind them, which was an important factor. .Harris, of Institute, set tho ball rolling, but Jarmie. of Y.M.C.A., secured possession, and sent on to Ballard, who was dispossessed by M'Girr. Play was then transferred to the Institute right wing, where Porter was beaten by the Y.M.C.A. 'left half. Knowles Smith, tho clever Y.M.C.A, left-winger, was next prominent with a smart run, his centre being: headed clear by Bell, tho Institute left back. Y.M.C.A. continued to press, but tho Institute backs, Bell and Wanden, always averted danger in the nick of time. When Institute forwards did get going their combination was not up to their usual standard; Ives and Coari, who wore both playing at the top of their form, always clearing witli little difficulty. Trott was next noticeable with good footwork—he passed to I.es Smith. • whose parting shot went behind, I'roin the kick-oil \ .MX.A.secured possession,, mui Jarmio landed tho - ball in tho penalty area, whore 31' Arthur, in clearing, handled, a - penalty kick resulting. Ballard took the kick but Tarrant threw himself full length' at the ball, bringing off a great save. Shortly after, .Ballard sent in a hot shot,-which Tarrant, again saved cleverly, but the ball went out to Baker, who from close in scored. Y.M.C.A., 1; Institute, 0. Institute rallied, and Torter and Smith had a nice run oil the right, Porter finally testing Sinclair, who cleared Y.M.C.A. came agom, and Wilson lobbed tho ball into the centre. It sggui us if Trott would reach tnc ball before Bell, but Ballard managed to. elude the watchful M'Girr, and sent in a shot which gave Tarrant no chance to save. Y.M.C.A., 2; Institute, 0. Towards half-time Ballaril made a great run, and with no ono but the goalkeeper to beat sent wide. The whistle sounded with the score unaltered. At the opening ot the second half it was noticeable that lnstitue had altered their team, Houston going centre, Harris outside-left, and Ilalley inside-left. That the change was a wise one was <l"»® apparent by the play of the Institute forwards Right off they invaded the YMC.A territory, where Houston had a good shot at goal, Sinclair olear'ijg. Knowles Smith, admirably backwl by Wilson, made a clever run Want en cleariii" Institute forwards, forced theplay in line style, "Jiromie" Snntli beatin" Wilson and Co#d; but his centre was cleared by Ives, who was playing a sterling iramo. Ballard, who was well watched"by M'Girr in the first half, wisely changed his tactics, and swung the ball out to his wing men Knowles and Les Smith. Both these players wero always dangerous, their centres being very seenrate. Institute continued to press, and from a centre by Harris Houston converted close in. Y.M.C.A., 2; Institute, 1. Encouraged by their success, Jnstituto were difficult to hold at tliifi Biage, and gave Ives and Go. a hot time. Jimmie" Smith sent in a good centre, and Ifalloy got his foot on the ball. Sinclair only ' partially cleared, and Jt Arthur rushing in scored. Y.M.C.A., Institute, 2 Play was now of the most exciting order.' Halley. with an individual effort, beat two opponents, and with only Coad to beat, lie-passed to Porter wo scored, but tho refejeo disallowed tho goal, Porter being offside. Knowles Smith next tested Tarrant with a good shot, but the latter saved at the expense of n fruitless corner. Institute again' avTac'Sed, and Harries centred to Houston, Who sliot hard; Sinclair was ir. tho act of throwing the ball out when Porter rushed in and kicked tho ball out of his hands, through the gual. Institute, 3;. Y.M.C.A., 2. The next bit of play was the. item of the match. Ballard kicked off, passing to Baker, who passed to Knowles Smith. Smith cut into centre, and sent in a lovely' shot, the ball hitting the post near the crossbar, and going through. Institute, .1; Y.M.C.A., Tho whistle sounded shortly after, on what was a most memorablo game. Y.M.C.A. were tho better team in the first half, and their lead of two goals to nil was well merited. Tho second half was slightly in favour of Institute, whoso success was thoroughly deserved, considering their uphill light, yet had they won by the odd goal, which 'seemed probable at one time, they would have Men fortunate; The Best players for Y.M.C.A. were Ives, AVilson, Trott, Ballard, Les and Knowles Smith, l.''or Institute Tarrant played an excellent gamo in gonl, and Wnnden, Bell, M'Girr, Porter, Houston, and J.
