' SATURDAY'S MATCHES. Two matches were played on Saturday, Athletic meeting Petone A and Suburbs meeting Petono B. By the courtesy ot the Football Association the former game was played at Lyall Bay, the latter being played at Potono.. The action of the Football Association in granting thei use of one of their grounds in Newtown Park subject to tho consent of the Reserves Committee was very favourably comment, ed upon. This will enable one match to be played in town evory week instead ot all games boing played at Petone.

ATHLETIC (25), PETONE A (9). Athletic kicked off, and almost immediately Petoue attacked strongly, and, liein" awarded a free-kick, AYlutley kicjted a penalty goal. Bradley soon evened matters by doing likewise for Athlete. Fast open play was the order, both sides indulging in pUssing, but the defence was very sound. Bradley gained possession in his own twenty-five, and kicking high regained possession and dashed over-a good effort. Weaver converted. This reverse roused Petone, and the;? Bet up a strong attack, and Whitley intercepted and ran strongly ami passed to Porta, who scored. The' luck failed. Play again became fast, but therei was no tinthor score. Oil resuming Athletic attached, but good work by Porter and Xruso removed the danger. Even follow, ed, Petoue eventually being forced fiom a good effort by Dradloy. From the kickout Meares ran down and centred. Horner gained . possession and scored, H caver converting. Shortly afterwards passing between Horner, Meares, Wilson, and Bradley lot the last-named over, Weaver a kick again being successful. Pfto™ then took a hand, and from a mark Whitley kicked a good goal. Play, now became very fast, and the Athletic backs assumed the upper hand, and from a scrum Horner passed to Meares, who beat several opponents and scored near I lie corner. Pepper kicked a good goal Shortly afterwards passing between Milson and Bradley gave Tetlcy a try near the comer. The kick failed the game 'ending as above stated. Several new players turned out, and on the whole very fair form was shown.
