THE LONGTON CASE
NO STATEMENT YET. The promised statement from the Minister of Railways regarding the decision of Cabinet on what is now known as the Longtau case has not yet been forwarded to the secretary of the A.S.R.S. The statement is beiu? 'prepared, and probably it will pass through the Minister's hands to-day for his approval. Then the letter -will eo to the office of the A.S.R.S. RAILWAYMEN'S RESOLUTIONS. At a meeting of the Thorndon branch of the A.S.R.S. held yesterday the Longtoil case was discussed, and the following resolutions unanimously carried:— "That this meeting views' with alarm the introduction of autocratic Prussian rule into the Railway service by the Minister of Railways (Mr. Herries), as such actions of his use of the 'veto' in the Longton case, and also tho flouting of 'scraps of paper,' . official obligations given this man, duly indicate." Arising out of the above the following were carried:— "This meeting considers the time opportune for the Executive Council of the. A.S.R.S. to press for a Staif Board to bo set up similar to that set up by the Post and Telegraph Department. "That this meeting fully appreciates the position of the E.F. and C.A., and our confidence in their invitation to a round-table conference. We, therefore, wish to assure them of our sincere and practical support in their efforts for betterment."
