WAIRARAPA ANZAC CLUB
The annual meeting of subscribers of the AVairarapti Anzac Club was held in Featherston on Friday, Mr. W. E. liidwill, 0.8. E., presiding over a representative attendance. Tho annual report and balance-sheet, tho latter showing a credit in tho revenue account of .£51)!) Bs. Bd., were read and adopted on the motion of the chairman seconded by Mr. W. Barton. The mover expressed a deep sense of as to the successful termination of the war, and pointed to the obvious fact that tha club had played a vory useful part in ■ connection with catering for tho social needs of soldiers and their depondauts. . Even were no further useful purpose to be served by tho buildings erected they would have no cause to regret the expenditure made during the period of tho war. He paid a high tribute to the loyal assistance rendered by the Ladies' Committeo _ in promoting tho welfare of tho institution. On tho motion of Mr. W. Howard Booth it was decided that a copy of tho bal-ance-sheet be framed for permanent location in tho club. In accordance with notice given the ohairinan moved: "That the Woirarapa Anzao Club be presented to the Featherston Municipal Council as a memorial to Wairarapa soldiers who were killed in the great war of 1914-18, on tho condition that a suitable monument be erected on tho grass plot at- the east of the building. And that any surplus moneys of tho club bo given towards the erection of such monument." In ovent of the foregoing notice of motion b'oing approved, to appoint a committeo of tlireo or more members of the present Houso Committee of the club, who shall havo full power to make arrangements with tho Featherston Municipal Council to give effect thoreto and settle all details. He 6aid that it would not be wise to leave the property idle, and with a view to its perpetuation, and particularly to assure the future development of the ideal of a complete photograph gallery of oarly settlers, also tho luetnbet'i and. their sons who had fallen iu the cause of Empire, to place the future caro in the hands of the Featherston Borough Council. The motion was seconded by Mr. Barton and carried unanimously. The chairman and Messrs. A. Clark, Q. Donald, W. J. Martin, D. C. Collins, A. C. Pearce, and W. Barton wero appointed a committee to arrange details. On tho motion of Mr. J. W. Card it was resolved that the chairman bo asked to sit for a photograph for placing in the club, and at tho suggestion of Mr. Bidwill. it was agreed to ask the Hon. T. M.Wili'ord for a photograph, he having been responsible for'the highly, successful inaugural concert. On tho motion of Mr. Barton the best thanks of tho subscribers were accorded to tho chairman for the able service lie had rendered. A hearty expression orappreciation was also accorded to tho committees, both ladies and gentlemen. As Mayor of Featherston, Mr. Card expressed high appreciation of the very valuable gift tenuereel .to the town. It was agreed that steps be taken to hold a valedictory social function, when the Ladies' Committee would be guests of tho subscribers. Afternoon tea was disponsed by a committee of ladies.
