TRAGEDY ON A TROOPSHIP.
■ : * ——. — DEATH OF A RETURNING SOLDIEE, The arrival of the transport Pakeha in Wellington last evening was saddened by an unfortunate occurrence on board the .ship on Thursday. .• It appears that two of I lie soldiers got. into a heated argument on the main deck. Christohureli, ■ fell heavily, the back of his head washing, ori to the side of the v iron winch beside one of the stop's holds. It was at once seen that Choate was badly hurt. . The man's skull was fractured, and he died almost; immediately—intaiii ;v few hours' soil of his native land. ' The other man concerned vns at once placed under arrest, and a court-martial' will be held. ■The'tragic- affair is-greatly lamented by all the Pakeha's men, as the trip had been singularly free from disputations, and both men were extremely popular, and said to be good soldiei's-in-arms.
