TARATAHI MEETING CUP WON BY POTENTIALITY. (By Telegraph-Special Correspondent.) Carterton, May 29. The Taratahi-Carterton Club was favoured with glorious weather for its anmini race meeting. Tho attendance was up to tho average, and speculation was spirited. „. ... A feature of the meeting was the promptitude with which tho events were got off to time. Mr. J. W. Card was in the judges box, and h>B numbers were hoisted without delay, Hastings stables were prominent during the afternoon, and no fewer than four winners came from there. , Prince Formby and Try Again were withdrawn from the opening event, ana tho public selected Tari for the post o honour. Ho jumped out smartly, and led the whole way. Cotillion was three lengths away in second place, and came Esperance, a length further back. Momac was fourth. Lady Witch (late Zabism) was badly left at the pest. There were ion runners in tho County Cup, and the publio selected Potentiality and Matatua in that order. Birkenvalo was the quickest to begin, and he led the favourite, Matty, and Lady Genera to tho homo turn. Then Lady Genera took charge, but Potentiality finished well and won by a couple of lengths. Matatua was a neck behind Lady General and then came Birkenvale, Ahika, and bir Acnes i The'totalisator said Parorangi, American Beauty, and Prince Formby were tho best of the Trial Plate entrants, and they finished in the order indicated American Beauty v*b quickest to begin, but she was soon headed by Parorangi, and he then led the rest of tho way, winning comfortably. Prince Formby was two lengths away, and then came Miss Land and Prince Hal. The winner had to undergo the ordeal of an inquiry relative to a cross, but no action was taken. Rio, a hot favourite in the Carterton Hack Handicap, cut up badly, and at no stac-e of tho race threatened danger. Generally he lias won his races from the front, but this time he was pulled about a lot, and after getting into second position three furlongs from home he was in trouble entering the straight, ana failed to get a place. Railand made play for a mile, whon Transmission, Rienzt, and Ethiopian joined in. The last-named got the verdict by a head from Kienzi, with Transmission, who got a bad run, a neck away. Eailnnd was fourth. _ There were only five runners in tho Telegraph Handicap, and Wondor was a slightlv better favourite than Lady Black. The Levin mare began smartly, and with Trontham Rose led into the straight. Then Lady Black came through, as did Daytime. Tho nair had a good finish, the honours going to the firstnamed. Wonder was a poor third, and then came Tranthain Rose and Merne Poto - „• , ii March On and Porno Girl were tho only ones fancied in the Hack Welter Handicap. Tho latter drew the inside, and soon had a break on the others. The favourite ran into 6ecoud place down the back, hut lie could not reach Some Girl, who won bv three lengths. Momac was a similar distance away, and Tuticorn and Warmth were next. There -were seven runners, and at one stage they wero in India* file. v . The Open Welter Handicap was the best betting race of the day, all the runners being fancied except Hydrus and Haumakaka. The field was bunched to the straight, where Loyal Arch took charge, but inside the distance Sir Agnes shot out and won well from Loyal Arch and Hydrus. Elocution, the, favourite, finished last,,. For the' concluding event another Hastings-trained horse in Honey Bee was made a pronounced favourite. She could not go the pace set in the early stages bv Prince Formby, but the leader tiring, the favourite got up in the last few strides and won by a neck. Tonukohc was a fair third; RESULTS.
