LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
OUR ERRAriC FERRY SERVICE A LONG-SUFFERING PUBLIC. Sir,—l wonder bow much longer the travelling public aro to 1)0 iueonveniimccd by the vagaries of a few irresponsible, firemen? I was one of about 600 who embarked on the Maori last night, and after sitting in cold, cheerless quarters for over two hours, hud to go ashore owing (o a shortage of firemen. it may be that the Union Company ia doing its best, but it is monstrous Nto suppose that the public can be expected to calmly submit to such treatment. It eecms to me that matters would 'be brought to a 'head if the company were to notify the union concerned that if they ennnot supply men to work the ship the company must appeal to the Government to suspend the Shipping Act so that the necessary labour may be obtained elsewhere. Hero is an opportunity for our -.energetic aud enthusiastic Miuister of Marine to earn the gratitude of a long suffering public—l am, etc., "STRANDED."
