The Watersiders' Federation has received advices i'rom its Brisbane branch that the men in Brisbane are prepared to work inter-Slate cargo from oversea ships, provided that such cargo is loaded entirely by watersiders' labour. It is unlikely that the owners will agree to this, as it woukt mean the abandonment of preference to loyalists, who are at present loading oversea steamers.—Vim Aesn. ATTEMPT TO RUSH THE WHARP. I • Melbourne, May 28. The strikers attempted to rush the wharf where loyalists were unloading * steamer. They were easily defeated by a.strong body of police.—Press Assn.. The parties are awaiting to-morrow's conference in anticipation of an amicable agreement which will permit the early resumption of work. The wharf labourers at Melbourne are likely to prove a stumbling block. They are determined not to resume except under pre-war conditions, and may embroil other unions.—Press Assn.
