THE,LONGTON CASE. At a mass meeting of members of tho Wellington branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants tho following resolution was carried:-" "he members of the Wellington branch of the A SR. S. strongly resent the autocratic 'decision of the 'Minister of .Railways in using" the power of veto against tho unanimous decision of tho Railway Appeal Hoard, who decided in favour of the appellant, A. V. Longlon, booking clerk, Lainbton. This decision *f the Minister against the unanimous decision of the board practically annuls the use of'tlio (■aid board with the power of veto now exercised* The following lesoluhon also was carried:—"The members of 'tho Wellington branch of the A.S.R.S. strongly protests against tho National -GovernI input depriving Mr. P. Webb and others of their political and civil rights. . _ A special meeting of the Paekakariki branch of the A.S'.R.S. was held on May 25 to hear Mr. M. Lee, who was until recently a member of the ExecutiveCouncil, but who was removed from office on account of his actions tion with the recent negotiations between the societv, the Minister, and the General Manager of Railways. After hearing Mr, Lee's explanation, the following resolution was carried unanimously:— "That this branch heartily supports Mr Lee aiicl (hanks him for his able address." , The following resolutions were also carried:—"That this 'branch supports the E.F.C.A. in their efforts to secure justice from the Government." "That this branch enters .in emphatic protest against the Minister's veto in the Longton case, more especially as the Appeal Board were so unanimous in their decision,"
