During the. third grade football match at Palmorston North ,T. Penny, of tho High' Sohool junior team, had tho misfortune to dislocate his right elbow. Tho injured lad was taken away for medical assistance, and is now progressing favourably.

Mr. G. A. Loughnan, of Palmerston North, lias received advice that his son, Captain C. H. Loughnan, K.F.A., lias beon admitted as a student to tho Middle Temple. Captain Loughnan, who has seon nearly three years' active service, is remaiuing in England for tho' purpose of continuing his studies.

Mr. J. A. Nash, M.P., is convening a meeting of local bodies in the district for the purpose of what steps should be taken to replace the wrecked steamer, Queen of the South, for the purpose of maintaining tho importation of coal supplies through tho port of Foxton.

Mr. Maurice Cohen, of Palmerston North, has ■ returned after a healthrecruiting trip of five weeks spent at lloVorua. Mr. Cohen is much benefited in health.

At a meeting of the Palmerston North High School Old Girls' Hockey Club arrangements M'ere made for the coming season. It was decided to commence play on Saturday, June 21. Tho following officers were elected:—President, Miss Ironside; vice-president, Mrs. Broad; captain, Miss Hodden secretary, Miss 11, Green.

There died at Palmerston North Inst week the widow of one of Feilding's first .barristers and solicitors in the person of Mrs. Staite. The deceased lady, who was for many years resident at Halcombe, leaves two daughters, one of whom is in the teaching profession at Palmerston North.

Mr, W. J. Thompson, formerly on the Magistrate's Court staff at Wellington, has been transferred to PnJmerston North, and has taken up his duties in that town.

The Bikiorangi Post Office, 'which is now in cihirge of Mr. F. Meyers, who. has succeeded Miss Kent, is shortly to bo replaced with a larger structure.

A meeting of members of tho Otaki Bowling Club,, and ladies interested in the formation of a croquet club, and tho holding of a bowlers' ball was held at Otaki last week. It was pointed out that if it wero decided to form a croquet club an outlay of about ,£ls would be necessary to purchase a double croquet set, but eventually it was thought ladies would provide their own mallets. It was decided that the ground bo put in order for croquet. A committee was elected to arrange for a bowlers' ball, Mr. Satherly being appointed while Mesdames Bills, Satherly, Webster" and Misses Noble, Bills, .Smith,' Watts, Kilminster, Olliver, and St. George wero' elected a committee. The'function will be held on July IG.

The following office-bearers have been elected to tho llorowhenua Fruit-growers' Association for the .ensuing year:—President, Mr. J. C. Neill; vice-president, Mr. 11. Newport; committee, -Messrs. Hall, Blackburn, A reus, Harwood, ami Hughes;' secretary, Mr. J.' S.' Wilson.

Miss Mackay has resigned her position at tho Te ILoro School.

Mrs. Powell and family, who havo been residents of the Otaki district for the past 2-1 years, are moving to Wellington to take up their residence in that city. Mr._ C. Thomson has been appointed manager of the Co-opcrativo Cheese Factory at Ashluirst.

Mr. E. Sywoads, of Ashhurst, lias grown some good samples of smooth skin lemons which are on exhibition in the town.

The iUaiiawafcu Hunt Club did not hold its customary meet ,ou Saturday afternoon, A meeting of tho committee was hold in tlio evening, when it was 'decided to apply for' Wednesday, July 30, for the hunt's steeplechase meeting. Twenty now members wero elected, including two Indies.. The next meet will be held at the homestead of 'the president, Mr. S. It. Lancaster, at Stoiiey Creek.
