THE MEN IN EGYPT
Sir,—The Government's statement that there are no boats to'•' bring the men homo from Egypt is somewhat at variance with the information cabled last week l>y Mr. Massey that there are 14 ships on their >way to Now Zealand, or about to.leave. As many of the bonis are coming out in ballast, the excuse that the Suez Canal is not a Kade route carries no weight. The boats °re urgently wanted out hero to talco back New Ssca-' Jnnd produce 1 , and therefore come via Panama, as being the juickost route. While naturally the people of New Zealand want every facility for-their export trade, we feel sure that they do not want those facilities a,t the expense of the wlio have helped to make the contmuanco of that trade possible. . The authorities here say that nothing can be done in the matter from this end. Mr. Massey-is in England at present, "presumably in too interest of the Ni;w Zealatiders. Is it not his dutv to represent the caso of the repatriation of the troops in Egypt to tiio Ministry of Shipping?—l am, etc., • FAIR PLA.i.
