MAGISTRATE'S COURT
~ OBSTRUCTING THE POLICE,
Mr. F. V. Frazer, S.M., presided over Saturday's sitting of the Magistrate's Court.
Charges of drunkenness and of. using obscone language were preferred against Charles Heke, and arising out of these offences William Aubrey was charged with obstructing Constable Joseph Quinn. Heke admitted his "offences, but Aubrey pleaded not guilty.. Police evidence was to the effect that Heke was arrested and a scuffle followed. AN'eturned soldier assisted the constable, but Aubrey endeavoured to rescue Heke, and further trodble ensued. Other police arrived on the scene, and eventually secured both accused. His Worship fined Heke .£1 for using obscence language, and ho was convicted and discharged for drunkenness. Aubrey was cqnvictedi and fined £a, in default one month's imprisonment. Charles Arthur Glazebrook was convicted and discharged for drunkenness, and was ordered to pay 17s. Gd. medical expenses. Three first offenders were lined ss. -each and two others were fined 103. each. On a charge of creating a breach of the peace-'iising threatening behaviour on Lambton Quay—Paku Smith was convicted and discharged. It appears that, Smith and another man had an argument in front of an hotel, and Smith persisted in trying to fight after boing warned by the policeman. JUVENILE COURT. Three little boys appeared before Mr. F. V. Frazer, S.M., at tho Juvenile Court on Saturday to answer a charge of having thrown stones and damaged two windows of a Chinaman's shop valued at £1. Two of the boys admitted throwing stones, but the Court was unable to discover which boy. was responsible for breaking the windows. One of the .boys used a shanghai. His Worship decided not to enter a conviction, but to adjourn the case for ono year, during which time the boys will bo under tho supervision of tho Juvenile Probation Officer. Tho parents of, the boys were ordered to 'pay the cost of the damage done, and also expenses amounting to £1 Cs. Five boys pleaded guilty to charges of stealing a quantity of lemonade valued at 55., tho property of flic Bacon Aerated Water Co., and a quantity of chocolate valued at .fil. 95., the property of tho Windsor Manufacturing Co., It appears that tho premises which they entered wero rather loosely fastened. ar.(l the boys gained entrance and took tho goods. The Juvenilo Probation Officer gave them all good characters. His Worship explained the seriousness of the offence to the boys, and adjourned the charges for two years, the offenders to be under tho .control of the Juvenile Probation Officer.
