WAIROA HARBOUR
SiV,— Kindly allow nm to .correct the statement that some little tune ago tin) linrbour works at Wairoa wcro washed out to sea. Tho walls constituting the harbour entrance works which terminate in concrete monoliths at their seaward ends remain, but are embedded in shingle, which has also closed tho entrance since April 14 last. A wrong impression has been formed from the fact that the soft papa rock forming portion of tho western wall has been washed iuvnv, the river being more or less effectively confined by pimis lnsipns pilo sheeling driven to protect the papa wall. Tho distance from Wairoa Waikokopu by tho present road is K miles, , and by tho proposed railway approximately M miles.—l am, etc., JOHN MAYO, Chairman Wadroa. Harbour Soar& Wellington, May 24, Wll
