INDIAN FRONTIER LEAGUE
A hundred and twenty Russian re. fugees have reached Kabul, where ■ they ha*e been interned, writes the Bombay correspondent of "The Times" on February 11. The Emir of Bokhara has sent missions to Kabul and Russia. The importance of the Kabul mission is increased by the presence of accredited representatives of the petty Khans of Central Asia. Its object is apparently to establish a league of Mohammedan rulers in Central Asia. Tho Ameer of Afghanistan has promised to. help the Emir of Bokhara in the reorganisation of his army and territory, and if is strongly rumoured that one of the Ameer's sons will wed a daughter of the Emir of Bokhara as a pledge of the new alliance. It is reported that during the influenza epidemic several Germans and other foreigners interned at Kabul died. Tho Ameer's own army suffered severe depletion from the epidemic; but active recruiting has brought it up to its formtr strength. It is further stated that in revenge for the murdor of some of their kinsmen the Afridis made repeated raids on Afghan territory. In one of these raids they killed or wounded a considerable number of the Afghan Militia and captured a few rifles. The commander of the Militia assembled a force on the borders of the Bazar Valley,-threatening reprisals, but temporised when he found that the Zekka Khels wore prepared. After negotiations the Afridis returned the rifles, n.s they were the Ameer's property. Notwithstanding the misfortunes of the Turkish Empire, the frontier tribesman and the Afghans etill regard the. Sultan of Turkey as the Caliph, and would resent any dismemberment of Tnrkey.
