Christchurch, May 15. •■•• Questioned regarding the proposed formation "of a Dominion Guards Regiment, Sir Andrew Russell stated that the proposal camo from an officer in the New Zealand, Engineers; The idea, he under- -.. stood, was that the. proposal should take ' effect before tliO' end of tho war, and that.there should be a Guards Division composed of New Zealand troops for actual•service. It was quite impracticable while the war was on. but had probably been brought up after the conclusion of hostilities. He did not care tc express nn opinion upon ' the proposal, because' it was not yet known exactly what the effect of the League of Nations was going to be and how it was going to affect the numbers of. At the City of London Board of Guardians the chairman, Mr. H. B. Kpaul. conKvatulatea Brigadier-Gonenil AV. U. Ablowhite, the third assistant clerk, on returning to his duties from the war. Ho nntered the Army as a private, and at the time of his'demobilisation held Mie rank' of. brigadier-gnnernl. He had also .'wen awarded the Military Cross.
