THE KING'S BADGE

i *-, . ■ CONDITIONS OF ISSUE. The Defence authorities state that 5i definite-ruling has been obtained from tho Imperial Government regarding the allocation of the King's Silver Badge. The ruling covers the • conditions under which the badge will be given to men who served in tlie military forces in New Zealand but did not proceed overseas. The badge is not a. reward for service rendered, 'but is intended merely to , mark those who have rendered military service and have then been discharged by reason of being over age or physically unfit to render any. further military service. So far as service in New , Zealand is concerned, the badge will be awarded only to those who -were so discharged (or transferred to leave without pay), providing in all cases that the unfitness was not caused by misconduct and that the soldier in question rendered not le?g than seven days' continuous' service before being discharged. . Applications will now be received from those' entitled to receive the badge under these conditions, and should 'he addressed as follows-.—"Keeniiting Eecords.c/o Assistant Adjutant-General, Headquarters, New Zealand Forces, Wellington." The envelope should be marked "Claim for King's Silver War Badge." As many claims will no doubt be made, nnd as. tho staff available for this work is a small one, then* may be considerable but unavoidable, delay in issue. The military authorities desire to emphasise the point that applicants who were discharged or transferred to leave without pay for any reason while still physically tit for home service and who did not volunteer for snch service nre absolutely ineligible for the badge, and i=iich claims cannot possibly be recognised, in view of the conditions laid down by the War Office.
