6 . •MR. P. CASTLE ELECTED CHAIRMAN The Wellington Hospital and Charitt able Aid Board held its first meeting since- the elections yesterday, there being present: Messrs. J. Smith, P. Castle, H. Baldwin, J. Hutchison. G. l'etherick, C. H. Chapman, J. Glover,, A. J. M'Curdy, E. T. Moore, J. W. M'Ewan. Rev. H. van Stavcren, Mesdaraes A. M'Vicar, J. Aitken. S. E. 0. Snow, and S. Beck. The first business of the meeting was the election of a chairman. Mr. van Stayeren moved that Mr. Baldwin bo re-elected to the position of chair, man. He- paid a tribute to the'good service Mr. Baldwin had performed on tha board. Mrs. M'Vicar seconded the motion. Mr. F. Castle • proposed an amendment that Mr. Smith be appointed to the posi-, tionMrs. Aitken seconded the amendment. Mr.' Smith said he must decline nomination. He felt that no better mai» could fill the position than Mr. Bnldivin. Mrs. Aitken then nominated Mr. M'Ewan, and Mrs. Snow seconded this .proposition. Mr. M'Ewan said that he could.not give' sufficient time to tlio position, as he bad many other duties to perform. He declined nomination. , Mr. J". Hutchison suggested that Mr. Castle should accept nomination, ami he. proposed a- motion in that direction, which Mrs. Beck seconded. Mr. Castle said he did not like to accept nomination, but consented to do no on being pressed. . The election resulted in the return of Mr. Castle by 10 votes to 5. In returning thanks for his election Mr. Castle said the board should place on record its appreciation of the work done by .Mr. Baldwin during tho time he had been chairman. The Rev. H. van. Staveren congratulated Mr. Castle' on.having been elected. Ho felt thiit Mr. Gnstlo would make an excellent chairman. A similar view was expressed by Mr. Smith and other members. Mr. Baldwin also expressed his pleasure at Mr. Castle, having been elected chairman. He felt sure that lie would fill the office with success. On the motion of Mr. Castlo, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr. Baldwin. Eeturning thanks, Mr. Baldwin said thiit Mr. Castle would.have a very hard period of work be'foro hi-m, as there was a great deal for the board to do. Howeer, he had youth on his side, and was a man of perseverance, as was shown during his. term, as treasurer. After other formal business had been transacted the proceedings .terminated.
