TIMBER CONSERVATION

. : —» AN AUCKLAND STATEMENT DENIED. By Telegraph-Press Association. Greymouth, May 12. At a meeting of the Auckland Industrial Corporation Conference, Mr'. Harbutt, in referring to the conservation of timber in New Zealand, stated that a contact was signed for the supply of fiva millions' worth of timber from'the West Coast for Australia. There is not tho slightest foundation for the statement that any contract for a considerable quantity of timber had been entered into by the West Coast sawmills for Australia during tho last two or three years. The parcel referred to by Mr. H'arbutt equals (taking the price of timber at 20s. f.o.b. Greymouth) ,500,000,000 feet, -or, in other words, is equal to the production of iho sawmills of the West Coast for ten years. ,
