CLERK OF PARLIAMENT
MR. A. F. LOWE APPOINTED. •'Mr. A. F. Lowe,' Clerk of tho House of Hepieseiitatives, /has been appointed Clerk of Parliament, to succeed Mr. Leouard Stowe, who has Tetired. Mr. Lowo entered tho service of the House iii 1885' as an extra clerk, and he has risen through the grades until now he is taking the highest position in the service of Parliament. He was appointed Clerk of the House in 1915, on the retirement of Mr. G. H. Otterson, just before tho new ■ Parliament met,. and he administered the oath to all the present members of the Chamber. He has gono through some forty sessions in tho thirtyfive years that he has been an officer of the House. Like several other gentlemen who hold high positions in the Public Service, Mr. Lowo is an old boy of Nelson College. He was born in Nelson,, was partly educated at Nelson College, and lie completed his education in England. When he came out to New Zealand again ho engaged in farming pursuits for a few years, until in 1885 ho first became an officer of (he Hou6o. Mr. Lowe will remain us Clerk of the House until after next session of Parliament, and in the meantime temporary arrangements will be made to fill the position of Clerk of the Legislative Council. At the conclusion of the session Mr. Lowo will assume the offices of Clerk of the Legislative Council . and Clerk of Parliament. The important position of secretary to tho Executive Council and to Cabinet has also fallen vacant by the retirement of Mr. J. F. Andrews. Mr. F. W. Furby, one of the private secretaries nn tho staff of, the Prime Minister: k to fill the position until the Prime Minister returns from England, when a permanent appointment will be made.
