LICENSING POLL

SOLDIERS' VOTES IN NEW ZEALAND. The completed return of votes cast by soldiers in New Zealand was announced vesterday by the Minister of Justice (Hon. T. 31. YVilford).' The total figures for seventy-six electorates are as follow: Continuance ' .■ 3886 Prohibition HSO Informal ,• 42 Majority for continuance 2i06 The figures show that rather more than 27 per cent, of the returned undischarged soldiers voted for prohibition. The transport votes already counted and the votes of soldiers in Britain, France, and elsewhere show that of the men abroad only about 20 per cent, voted for prohibition. The difference in the percentage is of some interest, ,and' appears to indicate that the strong opposition to prohibition displayed by tho soldiers whose votes were cast outside New Zealand would have been modified if the men had been in tho Dominion.

No other changes have been made in the returns nnd the' majority for continuance on the total votes remains at approximately 7350.
