RARANGA'S CONTINGENT DISEMBARKS

ENTHUSIASTIC RECEPTION

Perfect weather conditions prevailed yesterday when tho -draft of returning soldiers which arrived by the liner Katanga yesterday morning disembarked at (ho King's Wharf at 3 p.m.

There was a very largo gathering of next-of-kiu on the wharf, r.rnl a. particularly largo crowd thronged round the gates and lined tho by the motor-cars. The Patriotic Society's Band was present, and ployed popular and patriotic music, whilst thero was in ad-' ditiob a large muster of the choir girls, who gave tho men rousing cheers as tlio vessel drew into h« berth. Songs were sung, and altogether the reception was a most happy and enthusiastic cue. There was a large r.ttendauce. of motor-cars under the auspices of tho Motor Voluntary Corps, and Captain Pryor and his assistants had a busy time in dispatching the moil nnd next-of-kin to their homes. The cars droVe under floral archways,' and tho confetti girls enlivened tho proceedings considerably.

Disembarkation operations were speedily carried out under tho direction' of Captain G. Prictor, military landing officer, and his assistants. Tho Mayor (Mr. .T. P. Luke, C.M.G.) and tho Mayoress were present to,tender the city's official welcome. Throughout tho afternoon thoso soldiers and next-of-kin who were waiting to get to their :homes were received at the local ■ Returned Soldiers' Club, where a committeo of ladies dispensed refreshments. THE TAINUi'S DRAFT . DISEMBARKS THIS MORNING. The draft of returning soldiers on board the liner Tainui, wbicli arrived from the' United Kingdom yestordny, will disembark at tho Glasgow Wharf .at 5.30 o'clock this morning.
