To-night a fire was discovered in the. vrool department at tlie Eastgate Refrigerating Company's Islington freezing works. The ' Christchurch fire brigade went out, and assisted the brigade eon-, nected with the works to fight the . fire, which took an hour and a half to subdue. A large portion ofi the fellmongery was gutted, but fortunately this departs ment is detached from the rest of the works. .. The full extent of the damag& cannot be ascertained to-night. The wool-drying machines were destroyed, and some two hundred bales of wool severely damaged. It is estiinated that the damage to the building, wool, and plant will run from ,£12,000 to ,£20,000. A fire occurred among a quantity ot motor spirits and oils at the rear of the Vacuum Oil Company's premises at Port Ahuviri this morning. Tho estimated damage is about JHM. . OUTBREAK AT WADESTOWN. Shortly before 2 o'clock yesterday morning a newly erected .six-roomed dwelling, situated at /Highland Park, Wadestown, was completely destroyed by fire. The dialling wa? owned by Mr. F; W. Kowley, secretary of the Labour Department, but he was not- in occupation, although he had most of his furniture in the house, and this was also destroyed. The Central Fire Station received the call at 1.50 a.m., but the flames a good hold of' the building, and nothing could bo saved.
