' PETONE AND LOWER HUTT ' BRANCH. The fifth annual meeting of thePetons and Hutt Plunket Society was held in the Mayor's room, Lower. Hutt, last evening. N Mr. 13. P. Rishwi-jrth, Mayor of Lower Hutt, presided and congratulated tjiei society oil the good work it was doyug in saving child life. The annual report and balance-sheet read and adopted.
The report stated that the Plunket offices at Petone tuid Lower Hutt 'had been well patronised by mothers and babies, 'i'lio advice given by the nurses and their visits to the homes had resulted in much good being done. The visits paid by the nurses to homes during thfi year were 2413; visits to the rooms by adults and babies, 2480; mothers shov.'ii how to 'prepare humanised milk, 160; breast-fed babies, SO; artifici-ally-fed, W, The society again extended its thanks to Mr. and Sirs. G. H. Scales, who had placed their home and grounds at the society's disposal to bold a garden fete, ,£3B 15s. 7d. being the result. A jumble sale was also held in the Anglican Lads' Room, Petone, and brought in ,£24 Ss. sd. The report of the Sewing Guild showed, that a large number of garments hud. been made and distributed. The M?in and West Schools,, Petone, had once moro 'undertaken a 'great deal of this work, and had sent in a number of neatly-made garments. Plunket Nurse Humphrey was commandeered for special work at the temporary hospital, Lower Hutt, during the opidemic. Her place was ably filled-by Karitane Nurse Allan, who worked long hours and-had a btrenuous time. The branch had been working under considerable disability during the year owing to the interchange of nurses. At-present the district was being worked by two lu-.ritane trained nurses, but it was hoped that the Central Council would soon have a permanent -Plunket liurse available. The receipts for the year, including,a credit balance brought forward from last year, amounted to XU9 18s. Bd. The expenses wero J!2C3 Gs. -111., leaving a' credit balance of JJIB6 10s. 4d.
Speaking to the motion for the adoption of the report, -Mr. Baldwin congratulated the members on tho success of the year's work. It spoke well for the society to be able to-produce a balance- . sheet that did not show a deficit.
Tho following officers were elected forthe/ year President, Mrs. E. C. Kirk (re-elected);. vice-presidents, Mesdames Sl'Caw, Scales, Rouse, and Ewen, and Di'3. lioss, Anson, Mason, ■ Hector, Mirams, il'Donald, and Dudley, and Messrs. G. Cook, Dawson, E. A. Ewen, Baldwin, and Risliworth; secretary, Mrs. G. Cook; treasurer, Mrs. ITarman; advisory board, Messrs. R. C. Kirk, Baldwin, MT3wan, Risliworth, and Drs. Ross, Mirams, and Dudley; auditors, Messrs. W. Burd qnd G. Wilson.
Mrs. Bnrd, tho retiring secretary, was accorded a. very hearty vote of thanks for her services.
Mr. H. Baldwin congratulated the ladies upon the work they had done in the past. They all knew his views on Plunket work. He oame aoross a lot of it in connection with hospital work, and he would like .to say that they could not do too much in assisting the women in carrying out tho work tlioy had undertaken. He would also liko to see them set to work to get a maternity home for the district.-
