HARRIERS
On Saturday the harriers were favoured with a fine day for. the opening of the season. Tho Brooklyn, Olympic, and Scottish combined, and a very successful run was the result. Fourteen runners lined up, the season being opened by Mr. Marriott, of the Wellington council. The trail led from the tramway waitingshed at Lyall Bay along tho beach for about three-quarters of a mile, thence across tho sandhills towards the golf links, and leading across tho polo grounds for about half a mile. The trail then made a turn for home, passing a little south of tho gasometer, and making for ths football grounds. About one hundred and fifty yards from home tho pack was halted, and toed the mark for the run-in, Mr. Alabaster acting as starter. A good finish was the result, first place beinjr closely contested by D. Wilson and G. Qm'g, S. Townsend running third. After tho run thu members and supporters, numbering about forty, adjourned to Eowell's tearooms.
