FATAL ACCIDENT

WATER,SIDE WORKER KILLED. John Herbert Ward, a waterside worker, was killed ou Jervois Quay yesterday through being run over by a motor lorry. ' From the information supplied by the police it. appears that Ward left his work 011 tlie wharf shortly before noonyesterday, and boarding one of Messrs. A. S. Paterson and Co.'s lorries, proceeded as far as the I'iro Brigade Station, wherei in attempting to get ,oflf he slipped and fell. At the time the vehicle was travelling at about five miles an hour, and one wheel passed over Ward, killing him almost instantly. He was carried into a shop nearby, but expired before many minutes elapsed, and the body was removed lo tho morgue. Tho deceased, who was a single man, aged 48 years, resided at/ No. 52' Roxburgh Street. An. inquest will be held.
