CO-OPERATIVE STORES

DISCUSSED BY STATE SERVICE " ASSOCIATIONS. Tlie annual meeting cf the Council of the New Zealand Slate Pervice Associations was held in Wellington recently. The report stated that the past yeHr, apart from a certain amount of activity in connection with the proposed establishment of co-operative stores, had been a barren one so far as tho work of the council hns beon concerned. This had been due to a combination of circumstances in regard to the relations of the various associations which n.-id rendered it well nigh impossible at the present stage to take effective action by, means of the combination. The council cnild do no more than hope that the ensuing year would see a return of the activity which accompanied the council's .functions at the outset of its career. In moving file adoption of the annual .report, ,llr. Allport (president) baid ho ' was Eorry to place such a poor result before the meeting. . They rll knew the main reason. There had teen some little trouble between sections of themselves, and it was thought that the best way of getting over it was to "go-slow" and endeavour to establish more amicable relations first. Ono of the factions of the council hnd withdrawn. He hoped that the council would move forward and effect much better results nd thus have a much better report of proceedings at tho end of next year. There was one mutter that lie was very sorry to see, and that was that tho co-operative stores had not been an established fact ere this. In his view co-operative stores would be a very great boon. When they were going concerns he was sure that they would confer great benefits 011 the mi.mbers of all the organisations affiliated with tho council. He hoped that the htginning of the new year would see renewed activity in this direction. Tlie annual report and statement of accounts was adopted. Mr.-G. Allport announced his resignation, as lie was not remainiug i'l tho service much longer than when peace was declared, and in addition on account of the, fact that hi had already held the position for two years, Mr. H. A. Parkinson (Educational Institute) was elected president, Mr. R. Hampton vicepresident,' and. Mr. F. W. Millar secretary and treasurer. The secretary and treasurer was voted an honorarium for his services since tho establishment of the council.
