Messrs. W. H. Jackson . and Pierce Cotter will be the only two candidates for.tho Mayoralty of .Masterton. The for. mer is a nomineo of a citizens' commit, tee, and the latter has been a membej of the borough council for four years. There will be sixteen candidates for thenine seats on the borough council. The prizes won during the 6eason were presented at a 6moko concert held in connection with the Wairarapa Amateur Athletic Club on Monday evening. Tho Pollock Cup was won by R. Bell, of Wellington. Several horses in the Masterton districthave been discovered during the last few days with pea-riflo pellets in their, bodbs. Mr. ■C. E.- Daniell, of Masterton, who recently gave a valuable section of land upon which to erect a technical high school, proposes t.hnt a vestibule to the building shall contain tho names of fll Masterton men who have, rendered service abroad. Two motor accidents occurred in Masterton during Easter week. Mr. T. Higgins, the well-known horse trainer, was driving home in his gig when ho collided with a. car and was thrown out. He sustained such injuries that ho will be confined to his bed for "some days.' Mr. William, Shaw was knocked down by a car in the main street of Masterton, and suffered such a shaking that ho has since been unable to attend to his. business. Wild duck are reported to be very numerous this season on the lakes anrt lagoons of the Wairarapa. Rifleman H. R. Mawley, who won the champion belt at tho Hawko's Bay Rifle Association meeting, is one of tho most consistent shots in the Opaki Rifle Club. He is a club-iuato of champion R. J. King. As a memento of the Masterton Chess Club's Easter rally Mr. P. K. Kelling, of Wellington, presented a. silver knight to each player. ' A pairs tournament -played on tr.t> Masterton Bowling Club's green at Easter was won by Wood and Black.
