EASTER RACING
FEILDING MEETING PARAOA WINS CUP fßy Telegraph-Special Correspondent.) Feilding, April 20. For the Feilding races a lirnvy gale blew all day, and made matters very unpleasant for the large crowd present. Tlw racing was good, and some fine finishes resulted. Tho amount invested on the totalisator was ,£41,371, compared with <£•10,792 last year. There were several srratehings in tho Kawa Ivawn. Hurdles. Of those lliat faced the starter .Muster Lupin ami Want were evenly backed. Sweet Tippe.rai-y jumped to the front at the barrier rise, and, fencing well, she was not caught. She won l>y four lengths, while Master Jmpi" beat Want for second place, anil Sir Fisher was next. Swinton fell .'tnd broke his back.
Omaliu, Cotillion, Black Mark, and Festival was the order of favouritism in the Maiden Stakes. There was some delay at the post, and the start was not a good one. Omahu was first out, but he was soon headed off by Black Mark and Cotillion, and flie pair were together in front at the straight entrance. Then Black Mark forged ahead, and, resisting challenges from Achillon end Tiraivaka, lie won nicely by a length. The other trio were closely bunched. Omaliu shaped'badly, and so did Festival.
Rewi Poto, Henry Clay, and Marqueteur were the defections from the Cup, nnd i the public- supported Nobleman,, Pacific Slope, Client, and Tangihou in that order. At the start Master Moutoa took up the role of pacemaker, and ho led Nobleman and a hunched field out of the straight the first time. Going down the back stretch, Paraoa rushed +o the front, and passing , tho half-mi%i Nobleman got chopped out and sent back. Paraoa led Pacific Slope into the straight, where Master Moutoa put in a claim. Over tho final 100 yards, Nobleman got clear and finished well, but Paraoa held his own, and won by a length, while Mastor Moutoa bent Nobleman by a neck. Then came Pacific Slope, Client, and Palm Oil. More vigorously ridden, Master- Moutoa' might have r«. versed positions with the winner, but the unlucky horse seemed to be Nobleman, ■who should do better at his next start.
Railand was the actual, favourite ill the Hack Welter Handicap, but, with the exception of Dasher Boy all the other l ; were evenly hacked. The favourite was first away, but going past the six furlongs she was steadied, and Tiranga and Claris led her into the straight. In tho run to the pojt Clavis won by n very narrow margin from Tiranga, with Raiinnd a neck away. Master Iney' and Pomero.v were the next to finish.
Lord Muskerry and Some Bov carried most money in th? Taonui Hark Handicap, but a bad run spoilt any chance the latter had. March On was early in the lead, and' with Idle Talk lie led I/»'d Muskerry, Papanui, and Consultation into the straight. Irt the run to the post March On anil Papanui were head and head, and they crossed the line together. Marcli On got the verdict, with Idle Talk third, and Lord Muskerry next.
Inali, Demos, Tirana, and Kawakore were missing when lilt- field was saddled up for the Mangaono Stakes. T'lio betting was very even, but Chimera finished up the absolute favourite. Waimntao, 011 tlie inside, was the quickest to begin, and with Philomela he led Chimera and Acre down the back. Philomela was done with' entering tho straight, wliere Acre challenged Waimi'tao, but could not head him off, and the Bezonian gelding won by a half-length. Simonides finished very fast, and just missed second place by a head. Chimera, Mar'jueteur, and Gold Problem were the next to finish.
There were eight starters in the Ongo Hack Handicap. Vance, Tempo, and Black Mark was the crder of favouritism. The two former failed to begin smartly, and could not reach the front nl any stage. 'Caynel Arch and Wonder led Black Mark to the straight entrance, yvhero the trio were well clear of Matatna, who was next. In a great raco to the post Carmel Arch got his head in front and just won from Wonder, who beat Blr.ck liark by a nose, Matatua was fourth.
'/Sola-was the favourite in the concluding event, but there was y.lenty of money for Play Off and White Blaze. Piny Off nnd Tirana led into the straight from White Blaze and Zola. Tirana was boon done with, but (lie other trio fought out a good finish, victory n sting with White Blaze. Play Off was a neck away. Zola was close up, after gutting badly away. • . RESULTS.
