ORPHANS CLUB

The ninth annual general meeting of tho Wellington Orphans' Club was presided over bv Chief Orphan Surgeon-Gene-ral K.-Henderson. The session concluded, It was stated, was the most successful in the history of the club. There was a most satisfactory credit balance in hand, and only three outstanding subscriptions. "During the war period no less a sum than ,£313 was handed over by tho club to various patriotic purposes.. The opening night of the 1919 session was fixed for May 3. The following, officebearers were elected:—Patron, His Excellency tho Governor-General, Lord Liverpool; vice-patrons, Colonel B.V J. Collins and Eev. Archibald Hunt; president, Colonel J. J. Eason; vice-presidents, ■Messrs. Matt. Carr, B. A. Batt, D. dPLaron, TV. C. Kobinson, C. C. Odlin, J. Macintosh; committee, Messrs. G. Christie, FraseilTliomson. W. Goudie, P Biwnjohn, H. Cooke, N. It. M'lsaac, IT. Shakes, and Colonel J. E. Purdy; non. secretary, Mr. Herbert P. wood; Hon. treasurer, Mr. H. ;i. Levy; musteal director, Mr. H. Moschini; lion, accompanists, Messrs. H. Godier and G. Holloway; hon. auditors, Messrs. D. Markham and J. Battersby. During the evening a presentation was made, to tho retiring Cliief Orphan, Sur-geon-General Henderson on the eve of his departure from New Zealand. In mnking the presentation-, Colonel Ji J. lisson referred to the keen interest the general had always taken in the. club, and the very high esteem.in which he is held by every member of the "" -n9 Club. Tho opportunity was Uu..'.'. " wishing the general a safe voyage, and long life and hapniness. General Henderson thanked the club for tho thoughtful presentation, which he would always treasure in' memory of the happy hours spent with tho Wellington Orphans Club. The general's health was then proposed with musical honours.
