FROM EGYPT
» j;aikoura's draft disembarks. Tho transport Kaikoura, with 1100 troops from Egypt and Palestine, having been found to be a "clean ship" (medically), was berthed at the King's Wharf nt 7.15 a.m. on Saturday, and immediately tho work of disembarkation commenced. The draft includes a preponderance of men of the N.H. Mounted Rifles, most of whom had seen service in Palestine, and some of whom were concerned in General Allenby's big roundup. When the vessel lift Egypt there were no outward visible signs of the native trouble which has since developed. The men for the Wairarapa and Taranaki left by the ordinary morning express, and the Auckland section were dispatched by a special train which left, at 2 p.m. The Canterbury and Otego mon left by the Mararoa, and the IS elson and West Coast contingent by the Pateena. , There were about fifty motor-cars of the V.M.C. in attendance to take tho men to their various destinations. Some of these came from as far as Upper Knit and Day's Bay, and-were at call soon | after 7 a.m.' There are stated to be some car owners who have accepted tne badge' of the corps who are not turning out with nearly the restularity of some members, with the result that tho wortc is (as usual) falling upon the willing ones. Christcli'urch, through its. Automobile Association, can muster 300 cars when it likes, but in Wellington there is always anxiety as to whether there will bo enough to do tho work with the speed and dispatch necessary.. The Y.M.O. hive done excellent work on many occasions, and the work is going to be still heavier for a.few months to come.
